Metal braces or Damon braces?
- Metal braces: metal brackets hold the wire with elastic ties in a choice of colours. You visit the dentist every month for adjustments.
- Damon braces: a passive self-ligating system with no elastic ties that moves teeth with light force. Available in metal or clear. Visits every 1–3 months. Suits working adults and complex cases.
Treatment steps
- Examination and planning: oral examination, X-rays and a treatment plan
- Fitting: brackets and wire are bonded to the teeth
- Adjustments: monthly (metal) or every 1–3 months (Damon) until the teeth reach the planned position
- Removal and retainer: a retainer holds the teeth in place
